What is Breathing Space?

Breathing Space from Bath Mind offers both face-to-face and telephone support, providing calm, non-clinical assistance for individuals experiencing or at risk of a mental health crisis. Our experienced team offers a compassionate, listening ear and can guide you to appropriate services for further support.

What we offer

Our Breathing Space telephone line is open every day from 5.30pm to 11pm.

Call us on Freephone 0808 175 1369 for calm, non-clinical support over the phone. Our compassionate team provides a listening ear, offering non-judgmental emotional support to help you stay safe and create a short-term plan to prevent a crisis.

Our goal is to help you work towards recovery, build resilience, and improve your wellbeing. We can also provide information, referrals, and signposting to other helpful services.

Who can call

Anyone who:

  • Is 16 years and older
  • Lives in or is registered with a GP in Bath and North East Somerset
  • Is experiencing poor mental health, emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, or feeling overwhelmed

To speak with a team member, please call 0808 175 1369 (Freephone) between 5.30pm and 11pm any day of the week. When you call, select the option for Breathing Space.

 

Evening Face-To-Face Hub

What we offer

The Breathing Space Hub is open every day from 6pm to 10.30pm at Beauford House, 8-9 Princes Street, Bath, BA1 1HL. 

We provide a safe, comfortable environment where you can find respite if you are in serious emotional distress. Our aim is to offer a warm, calming space where you can feel welcome and relaxed.

During your visit, you can:

  • Spend time in a quiet area
  • Listen to music or watch a movie
  • Play games or engage in arts and crafts
  • Chat with others or speak with a staff member

Our team will offer emotional support and help you stay safe, while working with you on a short-term plan for crisis prevention. We can also provide information and refer or signpost you to other services to support your recovery, resilience, and wellbeing.

Who can attend

Anyone who:

  • Is 16 years or older
  • Lives in or is registered with a GP in Bath and North East Somerset
  • Is experiencing poor mental health, emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, or feeling overwhelmed

We cannot support

Anyone who:

  • Is threatening or displaying aggressive behaviour
  • Requires a prescription or medical attention
  • Is intoxicated

How to refer

To attend Breathing Space, please call our Freephone number 0808 175 1369 or email [email protected] before 5pm on the day you wish to visit. Leave your name, phone number, and a brief message.

A team member will contact you between 5.30pm and 6pm to complete a referral form (for first-time visitors) and schedule a specific time slot for your visit.
