Volunteer Spotlight: Catherine – Magazine Distribution Volunteer

This month, we’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Catherine, our incredible Magazine Distribution Volunteer! In our interview, Catherine shares her experiences volunteering with Bath Mind and the personal rewards she’s gained from her time with us. Read her inspiring story below!

Can you tell us about your volunteer roles at Bath Mind?

I deliver Bath Mind’s Wellbeing in BANES magazines around town, which I really love doing. I collect a batch of magazines on a Friday morning from Bath Mind’s office and I cycle to various places to drop them off.

I go to cafes, Bath Library, Bath Spa train station, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s…places like that. It means I see Bath in a different light and I often spot quirky places that I note down to go and visit. I try to find new places where they’re happy to have a pile of magazines available for their customers.

What inspired you to volunteer at Bath Mind?

I love the work of Bath Mind and so wanted to help spread the word of all its good work. I mostly spend time in town with my two young children so this gave me a way to explore the city in a different way. I knew volunteering was something I could do around all my other work and family commitments.

What is the impact of delivering the Wellbeing in BANES magazines?

It’s really nice to see when all the magazines I’ve delivered have gone. It means people are spotting them and wanting to read them!

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

I enjoy cycling around Bath and dropping into new places that I’ve not noticed before. It’s nice when people are really grateful to get the magazines.

I also love to see the empty spaces in the leaflet racks at the train station and the leisure centres when all the magazines have gone. It shows how worthwhile and wanted they really are.
