Local Mind Week 2024: Celebrating Community and Support with Bath Mind
As Local Mind Week kicks off from 5th – 11th August, we at Bath Mind are proud to stand with our community, supporting the mental health of everyone in Bath and North East Somerset. We’re #YourLocalMind, dedicated to making a difference locally.
At Bath Mind, we’re one of 100 independent charities that form part of the wider Mind family. This independence allows us to tailor our services to meet the specific needs of our local communities, ensuring we provide the best possible support. We raise our own funds and have a dedicated board of trustees, ensuring that our efforts are aligned with what our local community wants and needs.
Kristine’s Story: The Impact of Befriending
This Local Mind Week, we highlight the story of Kristine*, who used Bath Mind’s Befriending service. Before discovering Bath Mind, Kristine felt lost, shuffled between various organisations without finding the support they needed. However, Bath Mind’s Befriending service helped.
“I would absolutely recommend it (Befriending)…I thought it would just be someone calling me once a week and asking how my week has been, almost like a companion, and I wasn’t sure if that would be helpful for me. But it’s not that; it’s having someone who can take a holistic view of things and get involved in a joined-up way. Because quite often, you have a whole bunch of different doctors and organisations that you have to speak to, and you have to pull everything together into a plan of how to sort out your issues. And that can be really overwhelming. Having someone who can look at all those aspects and work together with you has been really helpful.
There’s just been a feeling all along that I’ve got someone in my corner, and it’s not just me trying to deal with all of this on my own, which was how I felt at the beginning, very alone and overwhelmed.
I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received and feel very fortunate. I wish it was available across all local Minds and that as many people could have access to it as needed because it’s just been so helpful to me. It’s brilliant.”
