How Breathing Space Helped Me: Andrew’s Story

Andrew writes about the impact that attending Bath Mind’s Breathing Space has had on his mental health and wellbeing, and what his goals are for the future…

I have been getting help from Bath Mind Breathing Space, to which I have been going every night in the week since they opened up their face-to-face meetings in April. Every time something new transpires, as my anxiety reduces and I might get over problems by watching a film, for example.

I particularly liked watching “The Crown” and I really love engaging in conversation with the Breathing Space staff too, who know how to make me feel better. I love writing about Breathing Space, because I have a passion for writing and look forward to the day when I’m feeling well and creative enough to write novels.

Writing blogs for Bath Mind will help me with that and when I can write novels, I will have overcome (the restrictions of) my disability, bi-polar affective disorder. Having a strong Roman Catholic faith has also helped me in my recovery. When that transpires I hope to be a novelist, which is in keeping with my education – I studied for an M.A. Hons. in History at St. Andrews University in 1987.

A huge thank you to Andrew for your honest and kind words about Breathing Space and about your passion for writing. Our Breathing Space services are open to all – please click on the link to see how we can help you.
