Greenlinks - an EcoMinds project
Bath Mind, along with Bath & North East
Somerset Community Options Team, has secured
funding from Mind (Ecominds) to provide
gardening for leisure and pleasure. The service
is called Greenlinks and it is anticipated that
by participating in gardening you will derive
many advantages, including social, physical and
psychological benefits.
Where is the garden?
Greenlinks is set on a corner of the
Monksdale Road allotments in Oldfield Park,
Bath. The site is shared between a range of
different groups, including Headway and the RNID.
There is a large allotment which is exclusive to
Greenlinks, including 3 raised beds.
What can I expect to find on-site?
The site is peaceful and attractive with a
shared shed and poly-tunnel. There are
facilities to make hot drinks and an
environmentally friendly toilet with disabled
access.
With unpredictable weather gardening in cool
or wet conditions can be a challenge so be
prepared for all weathers, including a hat and
sunscreen for those days when we do see the sun.
What can I gain from attending?
Each person will want to get different things
from participating, ranging from developing an
interest in outdoor activities and nature to
making new friends and working as a team member.
By working on an allotment site, growing
flowers and vegetables we hope you will enjoy
the experience of:
- Learning new skills
- Exercise and relaxation
- Developing knowledge around nature and
horticulture
- Nurturing and harvesting produce
- Consuming the foods that you and others
have grown
- Using the natural environment as a form
of restorative activity
- Having the opportunity to look back at
successes and achievements
- Most importantly having fun.
What support is available on site?
A qualified horticultural therapist , along
with support workers, will work with you to find
out what you want to achieve from the project.
They will agree a plan to reflect your needs and
aspirations and identify ways in which these
will be supported within the project
There will be a minimum of 2 paid staff on
site at any time with up to eight clients.
It is the responsibility of supervising staff
and volunteers to ensure that clients working on
site are made aware of risks and engage with
safe working practices to minimise potential
problems, e.g. wearing heavy shoes or boots with
steel toe caps when using a spade or fork to
avoid accidental injury.
